Happy World Tourism Day!!!!
I love this year's theme: TOURISM FOR ALL: PROMOTING UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY.
"Accessible Tourism for all is about the creation of environments that can cater for the needs of all of us, whether we are traveling or staying at home. Ever since its inception, World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. As the official day set aside in the United Nations Calendar the celebration seeks to highlight tourism potential to contribute to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing some of the most pressing challenges society is faced with today." With the current recession happening around the world...ok let me bring it home...happening here in Nigeria, domestic tourism has sky rocketed! Being unable to travel abroad ('thanks' to high currency rate), Nigerians are beginning to appreciate our local tour destinations. Thanks to tour operators like Social Prefect, Unraveling Nigeria and Naija Tourist who have been promoting and encouraging Nigerians and foreigners alike to visit and explore the Giant of Africa's beautiful tourist destinations and cultural events. This action alone has created great awareness which in turn would help foster the development of the tourism industry as one of Nigeria's top GDPs.
I am hoping by 2017, Nigeria would participate in the World Tourism Day by promoting Nigerian tourism to both Nigerians and foreigners. So let's explore domestic tourism and encourage international tourism in our various nation.
