International Volunteer Day 2014

This year, I had a great awareness concerning special international days such as World Tourism Day, World Post Day, United Nations Day and many more. Now I just learnt about International Volunteer Day! Interesting!

The United Nations (UN), particularly the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) ensures that annually, on December 5, the International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development is observed.  International Volunteer Day (IVD), gives volunteers a chance to work together on projects and campaigns promoting their contributions to economic and social development at local, national and international levels with a grassroots mandate.

So how did I come about this? I have had the urge for a long time to go into social/community service. But I never really "dragged" myself to really look for that opportunity. So today, I just decided that I would search for a volunteer program in my state or locality and get involved. So I came about Volunteer In Nigeria. That's how I found out about IVD.

I really hope to take this volunteer yearning seriously. I mean this urge has been there like forever and I really want to make an impact, no matter how little, in my community. Besides with my Sociology and Community Relations educational background I should be really involved in community service.

I wish myself all the best and hope to share some of my volunteer service on my blog sometime soon *smiles*

I want to be that kind of person. What about you? *smiles*
