World Tourism Day 2014

World Tourism Day fell on September 27th, 2014. Honestly, as a tourism lover, am "ashamed" to say that I didn't know this program existed! *covers face*

Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. This year's theme was "2014: Tourism and Community Development" which held in Guadalajara, Mexico. Next year, the program is coming to Africa! The theme is "2015: Millions of tourists, millions of opportunities" which would be holding in Burkina Faso. I should think of attending *wink*

I did my university final year project on "Tourism and Development in Nigeria: An Examination of the Nexus". Tourism is one of the largest industries and the world's largest generator of jobs in both the rural and urban sectors. Though Nigeria is blessed with wonderful tourist sites that would help generate income, provide job, generate foreign earnings and improve the living standards of the people, the nation has failed to take advantage of it. (Insert from my project, 2007)

Well, am happy to say, Nigeria is improving in the area of building our tourism industry. But we can still do more. Watch a short video on Nigeria Tourism.

Well, HAPPY TOURISM DAY in arears! *smiles*
