The Black & Kinky Story

Growing up, I always wanted my hair straight and permed like the white girls (Americans & Asians) because it was the "in-thing". I hated it when my mum would use tread on my hair, I thought it made me look like an uncool village black girl *covering my face*

Now, I appreciate 'Who I Am': a black lady with kinky black full hair, thick lovey lips (I used to wish I had thin lips until I heard about how non-Africans with thin lips were injecting their lips (lip augmentation) to make it fuller like mine! I love my thick lips now!), brown beautiful skin and an African-beauty! *wink*

Recently I read this write up by Chime Edwards titled The Natural Hair Doll Experiment: Did Black Children Prefer Curly or Straight Hair Dolls on BGLH. Though to share....

And also watched this short documentary by Kiri Davis titled "A Girl Like Me"

These documentaries got me think...

So what's your thought on being "Black & Kinky"?
Me, I LOVE been ME: Black, Kinky & Beautiful!

Be inspired with India Arie's "Am Not My Hair" *wink*
''Good hair means curls and waves
Bad hair means you look like a slave
At the turn of century
Its time for us to redefine who we be
You can shave it off
Like a South Africa beauty
Or get in on lock
Like Bob Marley
You can rock it straight
Like Oprah Winfrey
If its not what's on your head
Its what's underneath and say HEY...''
