Super Eagles: AFCON 2013 Champions!

After 19 YEARS of waiting, the Super Eagles finally brought the AFCON cup back to Naija for the 3rd (third) time!!!

To be honest, I never thought the Super Eagles would make it to the quarter finals talk less the AFCON finals! And most Nigerians though the same. We all had the reason to after watching their earlier matches in the AFCON games....not impressive at all. But during the quater finals which they won against Ivory Coast, I started wondering what these "Naija boys" ate! It was like a 'special meal' (probably pounded yam and egusi with assorted meat) was given to them because they played like the Super Eagles we once knew. What about their 4 - 1 win against Mali? Splendid!!!!

It was home-based Sunday Mba who scored in the 40th minute for Nigeria against Burkina Faso on Sunday 10th Feburay, 2013 night which ended the nations long wait to win the African Nations Cup for the third time. This gave the Super Eagles the 1-0 win in the finals that was played at the Soccer City in South Africa.

Not only did the Super Eagles come out champions, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected 5 (five) members of the Super Eagles for the Best Eleven: Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, defender Efe Ambrose, midfielder Mikel Obi and forwards Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike. These men made the nation of Nigeria proud!

As their Coach Stephen Keshi aka 'Big Boss' said at the press conference after the Super Eagles lifted the AFCON Cup, "We’re not there yet. My plan was to build a good team for Nigeria when I came on board almost a year and half ago. Now we are on the path to building a great side.” Now that's what we're talking about!! Well done, Keshi!

GO SUPER EAGLES!!! GO NAIJA!!!!!!
