The Williams Sisters in Naija!

I thought it was a joke until I saw the front page of the Guardian newspaper this morning. Venus Williams' face was the first thing that caught my eyes. Both she and her sister, Serena, who are both highly acclaimed International Female Tennis players and former World Number One Tennis Champions, are in Lagos, Nigeria LIVE! That's nice. My dad, who was a tennis player and lover, would have loved to see them.

The theme for the Williams Sisters' visit is Breaking the Mould (BTM) 2012. BTM is women’s empowerment initiative that recognizes and acknowledges the role that women play in shifting perceptions and encouraging development on all levels across the African continent.

While in Nigeria, the dynamic duo will inspire, motivate and mentor a broad range of audiences through a series of supporting initiatives which include; a lecture, a gala dinner and an exhibition match which will also be the first time the sisters will play against one another on Nigeria soil.

The Williaims Sisters' story serves to boost the morale of athletes and business people alike. Theirs is a tale of passion, determination, hard work and self-belief that has triumphed over many obstacles and circumstances to be champions on and off the tennis court. Their visit to Nigeria will help boost Lagos State as a destination for global sports tourism. The significance of hosting the Williams’ sisters in Lagos is positive bonus for the Lagos State Government especially at a time when the state is planning to host a major sporting festival. It re-affirms Lagos State’s visitor-loving personality and its objective to become a premium business, leisure, sporting and entertainment venue.

CU Kings & Queens of the Court!

First and foremost, I must very proud of my CU Alumni B-ball Team (CABT)!!! We sure are the "Kings and Queens of the Covenant University B-ball Court"!

"Come all this CU basketball players we need to do we need to go to that CU and play against that team...lets see what they have on ground now" - This was the message that got we ex-Covenant University B-ballers to start planning four (4) months ago for a novelty basketball match against the school's b-ball team during our Alma Mata's 10th Founder's Day this October 22nd, 2012.

Am sad to say that even though I was one of the organizers, I couldn't make it for the event *sad* But hey! The good news is that the event went well and my CABT trashed the CUBT, the school team!! I mean, we showed them that even though "we old don't mean we out" as Funmi put it! *wink*

I want to thank Funmi Uju aka Fleau for 'waking us up' and making this vision a reality! Way to go, girl!

I also want thank Moyo Shomade for making our jerseys and making us look smart! *smiles*

FINALLY Felix's Space Jump!!!

Felix Baumgartner finally jumped from space!!!! The anticipated space jump was to have happened on Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 but due to "gusty winds" it was postponed to yesterday, Sunday October 14th, 2012. He broke both the freefall world record and the sound barrier by jumping from 23 miles above the earth.

U.S. Air Force Col. Joe Kittinger Kittinger, who held the previous freefall world record of 19.5 miles in 1960, was the only person allowed to communicate with Baumgartner while he was inside the capsule which carried him into space and while falling.
Am trying to imagine how it felt jumping from space *worried look* But I'm sure its an experience Baumgartner would never ever forget in his life time. who is next? *shinning my teeth*

Felix Baumgartner's Space Jump!

Felix Baumgartner, all geared up!

Yesterday, as I was searching for some information for my post graduate diploma project and I came across a link relating to some details about a guy who was going to jump all the way from space to planet earth. Of course, you all know me to be a Space fan and a Sky-diving freak. So I clicked away! *shinning my teeth*

Now before I continue, I want to say to Felix Baumgartner, "Dude, you're NUTS!!! But I have to agree that you are a very brave guy!" I mean this dude has jumped from the hand of the "Christ the Redeemer" statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!! What do you call that??? Crazzzzzy & braveeeeeee!!!! Now he wants to jump all the way from space to earth *straight face*

Felix Baumgartner (born 20 April 1969) is an Austrian skydiver and a BASE jumper. He is renowned for the particularly dangerous nature of the stunts he has performed during his career. Baumgartner spent time in the Austrian military where he practiced parachute jumping, including training to land on small target zones. (Culled from Wikipedia)

In January 2010, it was reported that Baumgartner was working with a team of scientists, sponsored by Red Bull to attempt the highest sky-dive on record. The project, which is scheduled to see Baumgartner jump 120,000 ft (36,600 m) from a helium balloon, intends to make him the first parachutist to break the sound barrier. The jump was currently postponed after the scheduled launch yesterday, October 9, 2012 due to "gusty winds". (Culled from Wikipedia)

Red Bull Stratos is following in the footsteps of Project Excelsior, when U.S. Air Force Col. Joe Kittinger (at right in photo below) jumped on Aug. 16, 1960 from a height of 19 miles and barely lived to tell the tale. Kittinger is now Baumgartner’s mentor, the only man alive who can offer advice to the Austrian on a mission where the slightest error could cost him his life. (Culled from

See below Baumgartner’s instruments that would help make his "Mission Possible":

Honestly, I wish Baumgartner's the best in his mission. I hope the next story I write about him would be a good report...Cheers Baumgartner!!!!!

Ayo, MTN Project Fame Dude!

In 2010, I went for MTN Project Fame West Africa Season 3 audition.

I remember seeing some of my Covenant university mates who also came for the audition that day. Ayobami Ayoola was one of them. We had both been auditioned and didn't make it to the next round. I remember how undaunted Ayo looked, like he was going to keep trying till he got in! Well, he didn't just get in two years later he became the winner of the just concluded West Africa Season 5. Way to go, Ayo!!!!

Ayo won a recording contract worth N7,000,000 in addition to a Toyota Rav 4 and a cash reward of N2,500,000.
Congratulations Ayo! And thanks for showing us that when you have a dream, you go for it and grab it by the horn!

Nigerian Paralympican Heroes!

Though I don't like putting my country in the bad limelight, am not going to apologize for doing so today.
Am so disappointed with our government right now!! They couldn't even give our Paralympian Heroes a befitting welcome home!!!

I wanted to go welcome them,o! REALLY!!! But wasn't sure when they were coming back!!! Infact, SHAME to the Nigerian Government!!! They couldn't even give these wonderful people the honors by welcoming them home!! Am so BURNT!!!!!!!!!!!!! This just interprets Luke 4:24 which says "And He said, Truly I say to you, no prophet (hero) is welcome in his hometown."

Our Paralympian Heroes

"Nigeria finished in 22nd position out of 75 countries with a total of thirteen (13) medals comprising of six (6) gold, five (5) silver and two (2) bronze medals. Nigeria was the 3rd Best African country in the London 2012 Paralympic Games"

I read that Team Nigeria London 2012 Paralympic Games medalists were rewarded with cash donations in London for their outstanding performance and lifting the image of the country high during the games. The gold medalist category received cash reward of $7,500; silver $5,000 and bronze $2,500.

Some members of the team at the reception hosted by Nigeria's High Commissioner to the UK, Ambassador Dalhatu Sarki Tafida

Fine, they gave them cash! So what??? Let me paint a scenario. Imagine you came back to your home town after like many years and no one came to pick you from the airport, even though they knew when you were to arrive that day. Then you angrily hire a taxi home. You got home, your family members welcomed you, then gave you your favorite dish to eat without explaining why no one picked you from the airport. Tell me, how happy would you feel? Be honest! That's how I feel for these our heroes! *sigh*

NEWS FLASH: My President, Goodluck Jonathan, will host a special reception this Saturday, 15th September, 2012 for the Team Nigeria Special athletes of the just concluded London Paralympics and the Falconets for their brilliant performance for taking 4th place at the just concluded FIFA Women U-20 Championship in Japan. Good to hear that *straight face*

Come Rio de Janeiro 2016 am going to do my best to support the Team Nigeria Paralympians. They deserve all the respect and honor for how they made Nigeria proud.

Nigeria won more medals in the Power Lifting category. Our 'akpu' is really working. *shining my teeth* For those who don't know what 'akpu' is, it's our traditional food made out of cassava. We eat it with our traditional soup. People that eat 'akpu' alot are categorized as very strong people.

Yakubu Adesokan, winner of the 1st gold medal for Nigeria at the 2012 Paralympics London event in the 48kg class Power Lifting category. Adeosokan also broke the world record.

Esther Oyema, who lifted 135kg, to set a new world record in the women’s 48kg category, won gold

Loveline Obiji celebrating her gold

Grace Anozie won gold for the Women’s +82.50 kg Powerlifting

Lucy Ejike of Nigeria thanks the support as she goes to receive her silver medal after the Powerlifting Women’s 56kg competition

Victoria Nneji of Nigeria won the bronze medal in the Women’s -67.50 kg Powerlifting

Silver Medalist Anthony Ulonnam of Nigeria during the medal ceremony of the men’s -56 kg Powerlifting
